Any app can be a prediction market now?
The CFTC issued a no-action letter Thursday covering "passive software" providers — apps and wallets that display CFTC-regulated markets and pass orders along without holding customer funds or routing trades. Phantom got this cover in March through Kalshi. Now anyone who qualifies does. Sportsbook stocks fell on the news, with DraftKings leading the retreat. Distribution just got a lot cheaper, and the sportsbooks know it.
Missouri is doing the math on what it's about to lose.
The state taxes sportsbook revenue at 10%, with proceeds going to education and other state programs. Football season is when that money comes in. Prediction markets pay Missouri nothing, and every contract traded on Kalshi instead of a sportsbook is revenue the state never sees. Expect more states to run this calculation. Tax revenue, not consumer protection, is what turns regulators into litigants.
Someone built a price-comparison layer.
Genius Sports launched Prediction.com Thursday, letting users compare equivalent contracts and multi-leg combos across venues next to live sports data. Cross-venue pricing is coming whether the exchanges want it or not — which also makes whale positioning on one venue easier to check against pricing on another.
And the category found its Super Bowl ad energy early.
Novig put Sydney Sweeney in a "Just Sports" spot, and The Athletic took it apart — a betting ad using a woman's body to sell to men, with one industry exec comparing it to grid girls and page three. Novig just crossed $1B in volume and is now marketing like a sportsbook. The regulated prediction market category is starting to look exactly like the industry it insists it isn't.
Also, guess what… We're 2 for 2.
Two games this week. Two whale calls. Two hits. Opposite directions.
Monday night, Broncos at Chiefs. The whales said UNDER 43.5.
The capital was lopsided: $161.7K on the Under across 6 buys, $140.7K on the Over across 11. Zero sells.
Final: Chiefs 31, Broncos 10. 41 points. The UNDER hit.
Last night, Lions at Bills. Same week, opposite call. OVER 54.5.
Yesterday we wrote that the early whales were taking the Over — four of five, $19.4K to $8.9K. Zero sells again.
Final: Bills 41, Lions 31. 72 points. The OVER cleared by 17.5.
Monday the smart money said the game stays quiet. It did. Thursday it said the roof comes off. It did.
Sure, two games is two games. But it's a hell of a way to open the season.
Oh, and if you haven’t seen, Polymarket is waiving all fees on NFL and college football this weekend. More whale money, more noise. We'll post early reads on the Sunday slate and the receipts Monday.

Have a great weekend.
Elon's new company is private. These 3 tickers aren't.
The next Apple may already exist. Insider sources say Elon has spent two years building a secret device inside Tesla's facilities — one he claims will be "10x bigger than the largest product in history."
There's just one problem: the company is private, and unless you know Elon personally, you can't buy a single share. That was true until Guardian's research team found three public ticker symbols sitting in the launch supply chain.

You won't hear these names on CNBC — Wall Street hasn't published a word on the connection. But when the launch hits September 21, that quiet ends.
Some are already calling this the biggest opportunity since AI. For anyone who missed Apple before the iPhone, this may be a second look at that kind of setup.
