Happy Friday people…
Big news in prediction markets.
The Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana just became the first tribal nation to partner with a prediction market, announcing SaltTrade Derivatives, an online trading platform powered by Kalshi's infrastructure.
The Tunica-Biloxi Tribe is rooted in the Mississippi Valley, established near present-day Marksville in the late 1700s. Federally recognized, more than 1,200 members, uniting Tunica, Biloxi, Ofo, Avoyel, and Choctaw heritage. They survived displacement, discrimination, and generations of federal neglect. They operate the Paragon Casino Resort — Central Louisiana's largest employer. They have a cultural preservation center and the renowned "Tunica Treasure."
These are not people unfamiliar with gaming, sovereignty, or the politics of economic development. When Chairman Marshall Pietre says partnering with Kalshi is an exercise of tribal sovereignty, he means it in the fullest historical sense of that word. The Indian Gaming Association can disagree — and they do — but the Tunica-Biloxi have been navigating these fights longer than prediction markets have existed.
Chairman Marshall Pietre framed it as tribal sovereignty in action: "Every tribal nation has a right or the same authority to enter into or not enter into." The move lands directly in the middle of the Indian Gaming Association's legal fight against prediction markets. IGA Conference Chair Victor Rocha responded: "I wish the people of Tunica-Biloxi success in their new venture, but it changes nothing about our fight against prediction markets and Kalshi." The tribal gaming world just split — one nation choosing to join the industry that others are fighting to shut down. That's a significant crack in what had been a unified front.
Public launched AI agents for prediction markets… and the launch is consistent with where the company said it was heading.
In 2025, co-CEO Leif Abraham said Public would "go into that somewhat ourselves," while drawing a distinction between market-relevant event contracts and broad speculative betting, specifically calling out sports betting as a use case that stretched the category too far.
Yesterday’s launch focuses on economic and financial events, Fed rate decisions, earnings outcomes, FDA approvals, Bitcoin price movements…
An AI agent that buys put options when an earnings miss probability crosses 60% is a different product than one that lets you parlay the Chiefs. Public built the former. That's the distinction that matters.
Kalshi says it is not being investigated by the CFTC over trading activity — a direct denial following the $5 billion wash trading story that ran in the Wall Street Journal. The CFTC had declined to comment when Benzinga asked. Kalshi filled the silence themselves.
CounterPunch published a long-form explainer asking whether prediction markets can really predict the future — worth noting not for the content, which covers familiar ground, but for where it appeared. CounterPunch is a left-leaning political publication with no prior prediction market coverage. When CounterPunch is running explainers, the conversation has reached an audience that wasn't paying attention six months ago.
